Long gone are the days when a TV needed to be hooked up to cable to be functional. Heck, we haven’t had actual cable in our house for almost a decade.

Want to watch the game? A TV can do that.

Want to watch Metallica jam out live in Sweden or Lasha Talakhadze lift ridiculous amounts of weight at the World Championships? Yep, a TV can do that too.

You’re not going to be using your gym TV to sit down with a bag of popcorn and watch the newest Marvel movie. It’s generally going to be playing music or a game in the background.

So, you don’t necessarily need the top-of-the-line 8K TV. The two places where you want to spend your money are on the size and the convenience of its Smart TV capability.

Sure, you could buy a non-Smart TV and buy a Roku Stick separately. We have Roku Sticks all over our house. However, getting a Smart TV will save you from having to have an extra remote and syncing issues that you’re bound to run into now and again.

Best Budget Smart TV

TCL 32-inch 3-Series 720p Roku Smart TV

If what you want is a good sized TV, with Roku already built into it ready to go – then this TCL 32-inch TV is your best option.

TCL is not exactly Vizio, but it’s a very popular brand that you’ll find in most big box stores like Wal-Mart, Target and we have a link for it to Amazon. It’s not some random brand that you can only find on the internet and is being shipped from who knows where.

The picture quality is 720p HD on this model. Once upon a time 720p and 1080p were the cutting edge and what we referred to as “High Definition” or HD. These TVs are actually a little hard to come by now as the new “standard” is 4K.

However, a 720p in my opinion is still going to work great for a garage gym TV.

With Roku built into the TV, you’re getting added convenience and saving around $40 from having to be a Roku stick separately.

One more cool feature that using the ROKU app allows you to do is private listening.

So if you’re working out early morning and don’t want to wake up everyone else in the house, you can connect your TV with your app on your phone and then use headphones connected to your phone to enjoy what they call ‘Private Listening’. Pretty cool little feature that can come in really handy.

We actually had a TCL TV as our main TV in our living room for years and I never had any complaints at all. In fact, we still use that same TV in our bedroom now.

If you jump into a money vault full of gold coins each night like Uncle Scrooge, then kudos to you, it’s time to treat yourself!

I went perusing through the internet to try to find the TV I would buy if I didn’t have to pay any attention to the price tag attached to it.

The one I decided on was the QLED 8k TV from Samsung. I don’t know if you’ve been in a Best Buy lately and had a chance to see some of these new 8K TVs, but they are mind-blowing. Somehow it feels like the color quality coming through the TV is even better than in real life.

And at 75″, it’s big enough to make a statement in any garage without being obnoxious.

Final Thoughts

I’m what most would consider pretty old school when it comes to my garage gym. I stay pretty basic with all of my equipment – a squat rack, barbells and plates were pretty much all I had for about the first six months.

So, the idea of having a TV for my garage gym seemed… unnecessary.

However, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made so far. The convenience of playing music or throwing on a game and having something to distract me for 30 seconds in between a set has been awesome.
