Average Height & Weight of ATP Pro Men’s Tennis Player (2023)
I’ve been a collegiate sports performance coach for 20 years. One thing I always felt was effective was showing guys the heights and weights of players at their position in the pros.
The very first sport that I was placed “in charge of” to train was the Men’s Tennis team at the University of Tennis.
Some of my guys back then were still concerned that adding muscle would make them too heavy and slow them down. Showing them that pro players that they modeled their games after were 10, 15 and sometimes even 20 pounds heavier than they were helped prove them wrong.
For these averages, I took the top 100 players* on the current official ATP Tour rankings (as of March 2023) to calculate the averages below.
In addition, just for fun, I listed the tallest, shortest, heaviest and lightest players as well. Go ahead and impress someone today with your newfound random tennis knowledge.
*The ATP tennis rankings list over 1000 players across the world. I only pulled the top 100 players. So, when listing the tallest players etc. this is only taking into account the top 100 players.
Average Height of a Pro Tennis Player
The average height of a pro tennis player is 73.6 inches (just over 6’1 1/2″ tall).
Average Weight of a Pro Tennis Player
The average weight of a pro tennis player is 176.39 pounds.
Who are the Tallest Players in Pro Tennis?
As stated earlier, this is only amongst the top 100 players in the ATP Tour rankings. Anyone who follows tennis probably won’t be surprised to see John Isner at the top of this list.
I actually got to watch John Isner play when he was still at the University of Georgia. It was crazy to watch someone that big and that athletic on the tennis court.
He’s not the only tall player, though. There are 7 guys in the top 100 all listed at 6’6″ or taller.

Karen Khachanov | 6’6″ |

Who are the Shortest Players in Pro Tennis?
When you consider all the advantages that taller players have, it’s incredible to see some of these shorter guys excelling at such a high level. There are 6 guys in the top 100 that are listed as 5’9″ or shorter.

Who are the Heaviest Players in Pro Tennis?
Considering Tennis Players are some of the fittest athletes on the planet, it’s not surprising that most guys are pretty lean. There are some guys though, that may surprise with just how big they are.

Final Thoughts
So, what did I learn?
Tennis Players, on average, are pretty tall. The average tennis player (in the top 100) is over 6’1 1/2″. This makes them much taller than the average MLS soccer player (5’10”) and almost as tall as the average pro baseball player (just under 6’2″).
However, there are plenty of guys that show you can be an elite-level tennis player at any size. 16 of the top 100 players are under 6’0″ tall.
Finally, I want to reiterate one last time that I only pulled the top 100 players in the ATP Tour rankings to put together the information above. I would almost guarantee that there are players taller, shorter etc than the guys listed here. But, I felt the top 100 was enough to get a good average and a good sense of just how big professional tennis players are.
