The short version is this:
Let’s use DB Bench Press as an example.
Grab a moderately challenging weight and perform a set of 10. Then, immediately rack those dumbbells and grab a slightly lighter set of dumbbells and perform another set of 10. Again, immediately rack those dumbbells and grab another, slightly lighter, set of dumbbells and perform one more set of 10.
Drop sets are a great way to mix up your training and throw a new stimulus at your muscles. By taking the muscle close to failure, then dropping the weight and continuing to push the muscle closer to failure, you’re forcing the muscle to actively recruit additional muscle fibers which leads to… development.
